Headteacher’s Blog #3 22/09/2017
This morning we had a visit from the Deputy Regional Schools Commissioner Jonathan Lewis. He walked round the site and was really pleased with the changes which have been made.
This week, Chesterton Community College the other school in the Cambridgeshire Educational Trust was given an outstanding judgment by Ofsted. This is one of the quotes from the report:
- “The Headteacher (Lucy Scott), ably supported by other leaders, has instilled a culture of high expectations across the school. She has successfully brought about significant sustained improvements in the quality of education since the previous inspection.”
- This is an incredible achievement for a school which has a very similar intake to Downham Market Academy.
- Please do have a look at the report in full as this will give a clear idea about what we want to achieve for our Academy.
Year 11 Drama students went to see Blood Brothers yesterday as part of their exam. They were complimented by several members of the public on their behavior; in a theatre full of loud students from other schools. They all enjoyed the performance.
Drama Club takes place on:
- Key Stage 3 – Tuesdays
- Key Stage 4 – Wednesdays
Year 12 Parents’ Induction Evening – next Tuesday (26th), 5.00pm-6.00pm, in Ryston Sixth Form Assembly Hall.
In order to more effectively support students at the Sixth Form and in response to requests from parents, we have arranged an information evening for all parents of the new Year 12 intake. Clearly it is crucial we have this session as early as possible in the academic year so the students can ‘hit the ground running’. There will be a series of short presentations in which Sixth Form expectations will be explained as well as the important role that parents/carers can play in supporting their children at this point in their educational developments. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions. It is vital that both parents/carers and students attend the evening.
Please contact us if you would like to attend – (01366) 389000.
The Year 7 Information Evening is next Thursday (28th) 5.00 – 6.00 pm in the Assembly Hall at Bexwell.
A massive well done to the 52 x Year 10 students who successfully completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expedition in Southwold; despite the challenging weather!
The autumn term extra-curricular timetable is now available to view on the Academy website in the CET (current info) section. The opportunities range from archery to Warhammer and provide a diverse range of activities for our students to enjoy.
The U16 rugby team started their season with an excellent 34-17 win against Reepham High School. Man on the Match was Archie Bell. Well done to all of the boys who took part.
